
Charm of Tea Art: Exhibition of Yixing Purple Clay Teapot features 30 meticulously handcrafted purple clay teapots by renowned masters from Yixing, Jiangsu Province, in the east of China, showcasing the unique allure of purple clay culture through exquisite craftsmanship. The opening event also includes demonstrations of purple clay teapot-making techniques and tea tasting activities.
A live demonstration of traditional purple clay molding techniques allowed attendees to witness the exceptional skills of artisans and appreciate the unique charm of purple clay teapot production. The process of patting and piecing to create round or square teapot shapes was followed by a special face-shaped statue created by the artisan especially for the Dutch audience. The intricate techniques of purple clay pottery carving and sculpting were also showcased, further showcasing the delicate and refined art of purple clay art.
Following the craftsmanship demonstrations, a tea ceremony and tasting session invited guests to explore the close relationship between purple clay teapots and Chinese tea culture. In celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival, the Center also prepared zongzi as a special treat for each guest. With the guided tour afterwards, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the philosophy and techniques behind each exhibited piece, uncovering the unique charm of purple clay art.






The opening ceremony was hosted by Wang Zheng, Director of the Chinese Cultural Center in The Hague. Attendees included Koen Sizoo, former Dutch Consul General in Chongqing; Monique Knapen, Chairwoman of the Netherlands-China Friendship Association; board member Aldo Spaanjaars; Yu Jian, Cultural Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands; renowned Dutch ceramic artist Tineke van Gils; and over 70 enthusiasts of Chinese ceramic art.
