
The Leshan Giant Buddha is located at the junction of the Minjiang River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River in Leshan City, Sichuan Province, China. The Leshan Giant Buddha is 71-metre (233 ft) tall, it is the tallest stone Buddha statue in the world and the largest cliff stone statue in China.
The Leshan Giant Buddha is chiseled from the mountain, with an open niche, and the statue of Maitreya is sitting with his hands on his knees. The Buddha's body is well proportioned, and the shape is extraordinary, perfectly in line with the style of the Tang Dynasty statues.

The Leshan Giant Buddha was excavated in the first year of the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty and completed in the nineteenth year of the Zhen Yuan era (713 - 803), which lasted about ninety years. The Leshan Giant Buddha and Ling Yun Mountain, Wuyu Mountain, Giant Reclining Buddha and other attractions comprise the Leshan Great Buddha Scenic Area. It is a national 5A tourist attraction and an integral part of Mount Emei - Leshan Giant Buddha, a dual cultural and natural heritage of the world.
Among the world's three major religions, Buddhism has the longest history and was the first introduced into China and forms an important part of traditional Chinese culture. The history of the development of Chinese Buddhist culture adequately reflects the characteristics of Chinese culture, that is, its inclusiveness and ability to absorb and digest foreign cultures.
