On 22 September 2026, ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the China Cultural Center in The Hague hosted Mid-Autumn Festival: A Moonment to Remember – Discover Guangdong in the Netherlands, jointly organised with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, with the participation of China Southern Airlines’ Amsterdam Office.

More than 180 guests attended, including representatives of the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands, the Guangdong cultural and tourism delegation, former Secretary-General of the Netherlands-China Friendship Association Ed van der Feer, representatives from the Mauritshuis, Dutch artists, tour operators, and students and faculty from Dutch universities.

The programme opened with Renewal of All Things, a dance performance inspired by Wing Chun. Wang Zheng, Director of the China Cultural Center in The Hague, welcomed the guests, followed by a presentation on Guangdong’s cultural and tourism attractions. The province was introduced through its Lingnan heritage, natural landscapes and the dynamic Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Guests were also invited to discover Guangdong during the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Shenzhen in November 2026.

Ed van der Feer spoke about the Mid-Autumn Festival and its themes of reunion, connection and empathy, highlighting the importance of building bridges between different cultures.

Tourism cooperation was another focus of the event. Guangdong China Travel Service signed cooperation agreements with two Dutch travel agencies, while China Southern Airlines presented its international network and travel services. During an interactive quiz, one guest won a return ticket from Amsterdam to Guangzhou.

Performances by the Southern Song and Dance Ensemble brought Lingnan culture to the stage through dance and music. Guests could also experience Guangdong’s intangible cultural heritage first-hand, including silhouette cutting, Cantonese mooncake making, Foshan woodblock New Year prints and Foshan lantern making.

During their visit to the Netherlands, the Guangdong delegation also staged pop-up performances at Zaanse Schans and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, creating spontaneous encounters between Guangdong culture and local audiences.

The China Cultural Center in The Hague will continue to promote cultural and tourism exchange between China and the Netherlands and introduce Dutch audiences to different regions and traditions of China.
