Dafo Temple, or Great Buddha Temple, is located at the foot of Mount Emei, one of China's four Buddhist holy mountains in the eastern suburbs of Emei City, Sichuan Province. The temple, first built during the reign of Emperor Wanli (1573-1620) of the Ming Dynasty, is the starting point for the pilgrimage journey to Mount Emei. It has a magnificent and majestic architecture, multiple halls and many meditation rooms.
The Dafo Temple sits west to east, and the overall layout is divided into three functional areas: the north is the Buddhist worship area, that is, the religious ritual space, the middle is the Buddhist garden culture sharing area, and the south is the Buddhist college education area, namely the Sichuan Buddha). There are also many eucalyptus and linden trees in the Zen Garden.
The Dafo Temple is currently one of the largest ten-sided jungle monasteries in Asia. It is located in the east, near the bustle of the city, but in the midst of the dust, it enjoys peace and quiet, and is said to be "a small hidden place in the forest, a big hidden place in the city".
